After the State tournament concluded at the Denver Coliseum on March 12, the Manitou Springs Mustangs brought home a second place trophy. This is the highest place achieved in state level by any Manitou Springs Girls’ Basketball team in the school’s history.

The game was hard-fought with neither team ever gaining more than a nine-point lead. The final score of this championship game was 52-44 in favor of the Lutheran Lions.

In the state final, Angala Jensen (12) was the leading scorer for the Mustangs, with 15 points.

State basketball action started for the Mustangs on March 10 when they decisively defeated the Eaton Reds in a 55-27 victory.

The following day the Mustangs faced off against Sterling. The Tigers and Mustangs played each other in the 2015 semi-finals where the Tigers had been victorious. This time the Mustangs would win with a score of 54-39. This win would advance the Mustangs to the State championship game.

Overall the Mustangs ended with a 25-2 season. The Mustangs will only be graduating three seniors, Brooke Garretson, McKenzi Petricko and Angala Jensen.
