As the baseball season goes by and more games are around the corner, the Manitou Springs High School (MSHS) Boys’ Varsity Baseball Team is working hard to get a good connection that reflects their playing on the field. On Wednesday, March 20, the MSHS Baseball Team began playing in a three-day day tournament. MSHS had the opportunity to host all three baseball games in the tournament at Maestas: the team’s home field. On the first day, the boys went head to head against Sand Creek. The game ended in a loss for the team with a final score of 11 to 13.

Going into the second day of the tournament, morale was high for the boys, and they came together to pulled out a win with a ten point lead. The final score of the game played on March 21 against Dolores Huerta Prep was 3 to 13.

On the final day, the boys used the momentum from their win the day before to finish out strong against Olathe High School. MSHS took a 15 point lead by the end and won 17 to 2. “On the first day of the tournament we didn’t finish out the game. At first, we were up maybe 10 to 4 but we fell apart as a team,” said Hunter Zentz (12), one of Varsity’s strongest players. “I feel like in the last two games we played well defensively and we were able to string together an overall good game,” Zentz said.

These three games were a good way for the MSHS Baseball Team to gauge where they need work during their games. “The first game against Sand Creek was a good loss because it allowed the team to understand that in order to win we need to finish what we started and make ends meet out on the field,” said Kaiden Kimmet-Reed (12), another vital player to Varsity. Overall, the tournament was a successful one for the team. With one loss and two wins, the boys should have an exciting season ahead of them.
