The Manitou Springs football team had to win their final regular season game against Alamosa to earn a spot in the 2A state football playoffs.
They did exactly that with a 51-6 beatdown over the Maroons.
Senior captain KC Quarry said, ” Its a great feeling making playoffs for the first time especially with three past years of failure behind me.”
The Mustangs jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter and a field goal at the end of the half by Ashley Benson extended the lead to 24-0 heading into halftime.
Manitou then cruised through the second half earning their 7th win of the season.
The Mustangs were helped by a strong rushing attack that consisted of two players, Johnny Swanson and KC Quarry, reaching the century mark with Swanson rushing for 137 yards and Quarry for 141 yards.
“We really set the tone on the ground and that helped lead us to the win,” Quarry said.
The 8th ranked Manitou Mustangs will host the 9th ranked Brush Beetdiggers in the first round of the playoffs.
The game will be on Saturday Nov. 3 at 1:oo at Richardson field.
