One game after a tough 1-0 loss to Conference leader TCA, the Manitou Springs girls soccer team bounced back with a 9-0 win over Trinidad and 6-1 win over Salida.
In the the April 4th loss to TCA, the Mustangs suffered a huge setback when Junior Riley Witham was taken out by an opposing player.
On that play no penalties were called and Witham suffered a season ending broken leg.
Ironically, that same girl who took Witham out of the game, capitalized on a penalty kick later in the contest which ended up being the only goal of the game.
Despite the loss, the Mustangs focused on their next game and took care of one of the poorer teams in the league.
Senior Ashley Benson led the Mustangs with five goals, which brought her season total to 13.
Manitou was also helped by Katie Mckiel who scored two goals and Kaity Vogel and Georgia Findlay who both added one goal each.
Benson said, ” Our next game is important to determine who makes playoffs and who doesn’t make playoffs.”
The Mustangs followed up that win with a 5-1 win over Salida, Wednesday evening.
Manitou, who now stand second in their conference behind TCA, will play ECA Friday night at 4:00 p.m.
