Mustangs Victorious in Annual Helmet Game

The Manitou Springs Mustangs played rivals St. Mary’s Pirates in the annual helmet game on Friday, September 2, which lead to a victory for the Mustangs. Manitou will hold possession of the helmet for another year.

The game picked up when the Mustangs scored their first touchdown in the first four minutes of the game. Before halftime, the score was 36-0, with Manitou far in the lead.

By the end of the night, there were six total touchdowns scored, all by the Mustangs. Cole Sienknecht (11) and  Hunter Thomas (11) scored once, and Bryce Coop (12) and Davyn Adamscheck (12) scored twice. Four kick points were scored by Jake Haas (10), and one point was scored by Jaron Rizo (10).  The end score was 43-0.

“The outcome of this game does not change how we prepare for future games. Every game on our schedule will be a challenge and we will not take any team lightly,” said head coach Cory Archuleta. This is Archuleta’s first season coaching the Mustangs.
