After graduating many key players last year, the boys’ soccer team is looking to form a new identity within the team this year. Senior captains Josh Elkington and Travis Struble have really stepped up as leaders for the new faces, according to coach Benjamin Mack.

The varsity team only has one freshman this year: Ryan Bergsten. “He’s dynamite out on the field. He’s scrappy and super athletic and just really fun to be around out there,” says Mack.

Last year, Josh Elkington led the league in goals, and was ranked second in the state for goals. He ended with 24 goals, with the Manitou record being 28, set by Sawyer Lincoln the previous year.

One of the key home match-ups this year is against St. Mary’s on September 8th. After losing to St. Marys last year, the team is determined to redeem themselves. Key nearby games are against Salida, on October 13th, and CSCS, on October 6th.
