It’s the end of the season for volleyball, and the team has been extremely successful, winning over and over again, with a season record of 21-4.

According to several varsity players, they are feeling good about what this season has yielded.

“It makes us more confident… We’re in a really good spot right now,” said senior Sydney Brooks.

The volleyball team is feeling great about ending the season with a boom.

However, although they have been very successful, this year was an uneasy transition for the players in the beginning.

Upperclassmen Sydney Brooks (12), Angala Jensen (11), and Katie McKiel (11) feel as if being the older members of the team has sort of snuck up on them.

“Our team feels very young… WE are now the key players. We’re now the upperclassmen that we used to look up to…”

Their success throughout the season all lead up to the regional tournament last Saturday, held in Manitou’s gym. The Mustangs were competing against the Bennett Tigers, and the Alamosa Moose.

In the first match against the Tigers, the Mustangs played phenomenally, winning all three rounds.

After the two visiting teams faced-off against one another, it was time for Manitou to face-off against a slightly more daunting opponent, Alamosa. In the first two rounds, Manitou won by a fairly comfortable margin, winning the first round by thirteen points with an end score of 25-12, and the second by nine, with an end score of 25-16. However, the third round was a nail-biter, with an end score of 25-23, Mustangs.

After a four hour tournament, Manitou had prevailed as regional champions.

Manitou goes to state this Friday at the Denver Colosseum, and transportation will be available at 3:00 to Manitou students.
