A Hollywood finish took place in Saturdays game at Jefferson Academy as the Mustangs defeated the number one ranked Jefferson Academy Jaguars, knocking the Jaguars out of the state tournament.

With the score being 33-35 in the Jaguars favor with only 11 seconds to go, the Mustangs had to make a quick decision.

As the seconds ran off of the clock, Senior Chase Megyeri caught the ball behind the 3-point arch with defense in his face and swished the game winning shot.

“The original play wasn’t intended for a three point shot, I had to improvise,” said Megyeri.

With the Mustangs coming in at 16th seed, winning seemed out of the question to most teams and spectators.

Both the girls’ and boys’ teams will go to the next round. Rarely do both girls’ and boys’ teams both advance to the state tournament in the same season, which makes the 2013-2014 season historical.

The Mustangs will play Thursday, March 13, at 8:30 pm at the Air Force Academy to continue their road to the state championship.
