On Nov.14, “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” was released. It was a movie following the first and second movie called, “Now You See Me” and “Now You See Me 2.” The film had many factors of action, mystery, plot twist, and emotion. The movie had a nice pace and it didn’t feel rushed. The director, Ruben Fleischer is known for other films like “Venom” and “Uncharted”, It had an all star cast of Morgan Freeman, Woody Harrelson and Mark Ruffalo.
“Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” explores themes of magic and magicians, and how they are used in our world to do good or bad. It shows how a group of people work together and bond through missions and hardships that they go through together. A wealthy woman, Veronika Vander (Rosamund Pike), who is the villain, owns a heart diamond that one of the Horseman, J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), wants to steal. This ends up leading to the reunions of the four horsemen, the protagonists, who used to do tricks together to do heists, which is shown in the previous two movies. This movie introduced three new characters, who are also skilled magicians, who become an important part of the group and the heist.
All of the Horseman have their own separate lives after they all split up. But one of the new team members, Charlie (Justice Smith) created a whole set up to bring them back together to help him get the heart diamond back because it originally belonged to him and not Veronika. The team goes through a journey of risks and setups that involve near death experiences and risks. This eventually led to Charlie getting the diamond back by using his skill of magic to trick Veronika. In the end, the team formed a bond together.
The movie uses a good mix of action scenes, like car chases and combat that shows the danger involved, but the beginning does start off a little slow with the action. This movie felt different from other movies because it involved a lot of impressive and unexpected magic tricks in the action. The action wasn’t too heavy or long and it didn’t lack. There were puzzles, traps, car chases, and lots of different combat methods like paintings, playing cards, and magic (which I thought was different and entertaining to watch). It didn’t feel rushed or like it was trying to kill time which was nice. Most of the scenes were serious but there were moments where the characters joked around which made it enjoyable.
One of the biggest focus points on this movie was definitely the magic tricks they did. There were many different tricks that they showcased throughout the movie which were some I had never seen before. They were creative and seemed well thought out.
The magic tricks they used in the previous movies were similar but pretty different. They didn’t make it too repetitive. Overall, I loved seeing the differences between the movies and the magic tricks they used in “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t.”
The previous two movies that are a follow up to this movie connected really well. It was something I didn’t expect to enjoy. The film was also a lot different than I thought it would be; it was well made and the camera angles that they used really put it together. It matched the whole theme of magic, action, and emotion.
With all of the action and emotion that was in the movie, it really pulled in the audience and kept them entertained the whole time. It always kept me wondering what was going to happen next. Even though it started off a little slow, it definitely progressed into something better. The story line and the plot twist that was added really brought the whole movie together.
I thought that this movie was very good and well written. The audience seemed very entertained and laughed at the jokes made during the film. I think another audience would also enjoy this movie. Personally, my favorite parts of this movie were the fighting scenes, the different tricks they used, and the cast that they chose. It’s different from most movies you see. 6.3/10. P-13 because of strong language, violence, and suggestive references.
