Although I prefer the pen to the sword
A pen is for open eyes
I am a warrior, disgusted with his craft
Even so, on I must war
Try as I reason, meaningful words fall flat
Words are for open ears
And so I march, saddened as ever
Even so, on I must war
Appeal to humanity, beg for them to feel
Feeling is for open hearts
I reach for their reason to plead for its end
Even so, on I must war
My philosophies strong, but buckled in time
Philosophies are for open minds
I march in line, against what I am
Even so, on I must war
A loyal soldier, lethal and trained
Fighting for peace, a hypocrisy
Horrid my actions, but necessary they are
It is all to protect my people
Better to kill the enemy unrelenting
All to keep the innocent alive
Rise I do, ashamed as I am
Even so, on I must war

Becket Wendell-Evans, Senior Reporter
Becket Wendell-Evans is a senior at Manitou Springs High School. He is a performer that has been involved in every stage-related activity for his three prior years at high school. Primarily, he is an actor, aiming to make a profession out of his love for the stage. Becket frequently engages in political activism and has a soft spot for the sciences out of curiosity for how the world works. He very much dislikes lack of organization and being late. In a time of rampant misinformation and bias, he hopes to be a bearer of truth.
