The Manitou Springs boys golf season is in full swing. The team started practices on Aug. 4 and had their first competition Aug. 12. The team practices at Valley Hi Golf Course in Colorado Springs.
The team has multiple goals for this season. Some players want to work harder and others are excited to earn medals. Nicholas Jeffcoat (?) is a new player for the golf team and has a goal to improve after just recently pursuing golf.
Wes Husby (10), a varsity golf player, has high hopes for the team this year. “I think the team will do pretty good. I think we all improved a lot,” Husby said.
Husby recalls last year when Hayden Dorsey, a junior, made 12th in state, setting the expectation high for this season.

The boys on the team all agree they will have a good season this year. “I think our team will be pretty good,” Jeffcoat said. “I think some people are going to make it to the championships. We have a few players who definitely have a shot at going to state.”
The boys golf team is one of MSHS’s smaller sports teams. “I like that boys golf is a really small team,” Dylan Tindall (9), a JV golfer, said, ”I think that it is better this way because you get to know everyone better and start to know more about each other, which helps with teamwork.”
Husby feels that the golf players, both on JV and varsity, show commitment to their team and the sport.
Husby is inspired by his dad’s pro golf career. “I want to follow in his footsteps. And this is a stepping stone to pursue golf in college,” Husby said.
So far, the boys golf team has placed highly in their tournaments. “The season started out pretty good,” Husby said. “We are getting second and third in our tournaments.”
Samuel McLeod feels that the high school team has amped up the competition. McLeod is a freshman who did golf in middle school and has continued to pursue it as he moves into high school. “On the middle school team, I didn’t do many tournaments,” McLeod said, “but this year I definitely will.”
