Junior Tyler Parrot is looking forward to the 2022 golf season.

Manitou Springs High School girls golf is starting its spring 2022 season with the first official tournament, the TCA Invite at Cherokee Ridge, on March 29, 2022.  Coach Ken Vecchio is excited for their up-and-coming season, where he can share his experience with the golf team.

The girls golf key players are state qualifier Tyler Parratt (11) and Anna Apotheker (10), in addition to all other athletes.

Parratt said she looks forward to playing with all her team members, as she made new friendships and relationships last season. “We all played last year and we work really well together in practices [and tournaments,]” Parratt said.

Our goals are to acquire basic skills throughout the season to compete in the Tri Peaks League.

Coach Vecchio, who has been coaching golf for many years, said, “Our goals are to acquire basic skills throughout the season to compete in the Tri Peaks League.”

The golf team has goals to make it to state this year and place at the Tripeaks Golf Tournament.

Parratt said, “I am hoping to have a few of us go to state, [and] I think we can do it, we just have to work for it.”

As the team started practice and got back into the swing of things, Coach Vecchio said, “[the] biggest challenge is always the weather in the first few weeks of the season.”

Last season, the girls golf practice and tournaments went into the summer.

“A bunch of people, including me, went on trips and missed tournaments,” Apotheker said.

This girls golf season will be focused on improving each individual golfer’s abilities, in addition to creating a sense of family within the team. With high expectations and goals, the 2022 golfers will demonstrate their abilities at their first tournament.
