The Manitou Springs High School (MSHS) Girl’s Swim team lost the meet against Kent Denver on January 17th, loosing their streak of being undefeated in duel meets in the 3A League. Manitou scored 64 points, while Kent Denver scored 121 points. With winter weather comes inevitable sickness, and during this meet the majority of the team members weren’t feeling their best, inhibiting many of their abilities to do as well as usual.

“We had a really valiant effort. A lot of girls swam while not feeling well. Although our numbers didn’t show, our spirits did,” said Kaitlyn Davidson (12), the Team Captain. Coco Stevens (10) made first place for 50 free and Sydney Dolloff-Holt (11) placed first in the 100 breaststroke.

Another notable point of the night, was during diving, when Kent Denver diver, Cambell Patterson broke the pool record for the six-dive. The swim team only just last year got a diving board of their own, so the records are all fresh. Delaney Sawyer (9) and Maddie Butts (12) were among Manitou’s divers who scored at the meet.

MSHS is looking forwards to facing Kent Denver yet again at the Tri-Peaks League meet, where they will compete to win the two day regional invite.
