The Manitou Springs High School Girls’ Basketball teams took on their rivals, St. Mary’s Pirates, at home on Friday, Jan. 12. Fans from both sides filled the bleachers as students attending to support both schools. Though the Lady Mustangs fought their hardest and held their own, both teams fell to St. Mary’s.

The JV game started and the Pirates jumped to an early lead of 12-2. Despite valiant efforts given by the Mustangs, St. Mary’s held on to the lead and won the game 31-18. The varsity game began soon after, and yet again, St. Mary’s jumped to an early lead over the Mustangs. The girls struggled in the first three quarters to answer to the Pirates high tempo scoring as they were held to at most eight points in a quarter. However, they did drastically improve in the fourth quarter by outscoring St. Mary’s 17-12.

The Mustangs will have a tough challenge against Colorado Springs Christian School Wednesday, January 24th with all three teams in action starting at 4:30 PM.
