Theme options and date announced for 2015 Snowcoming dance

Isabel Dufford, Editor-in-Chief

This morning during first block, student council came to a decision regarding the official date and theme options for this year’s Snowcoming dance.

The dance will take place on Saturday, February 21, although the location of the dance is undecided as of the morning of January 14. In previous years the Snowcoming dance has been held in the Jack Willie Gym on the MSHS campus, although this year there’s been discussion of hosting the dance in an off-campus venue such as Venue 515 (of the Manitou Art Center) or Manitou Springs City Hall.

Unlike Homecoming, where the decision regarding themes and decorations is made entirely within student council, the tradition at Manitou is for the student body to vote on their favorite theme out of a few options. This year, those options are: “Fantasy Week” (with potential dress-up days based around Harry Potter, Avatar, The Walking Dead, Lord of the Rings, Alice in Wonderland, etc.), “Back 2 the Future” (an under-the-sea dance, 50s day, 80s day, Wild West, etc.), “Winter Week” (Log cabin decor for the commons, snowed-in/pajama day, sweater weather day, etc.), and “Bring on the Neon” (Monochromatic Monday, Twin Day Tuesday, “white girl” or white-out Wednesday, Thrift-Shop Thursday, Frat Boy Friday, and a black light dance).

In past years, Snowcoming themes have included “space” and “Disney”.

Every year, proceeds from various fundraising activities during the Snowcoming week will go to sponsoring a specific child through the Make-A-Wish foundation.

This morning a survey was sent to all MSHS students so that they could vote for their favorite theme. Students can access this survey through their student emails.
