Fall Sports Preview: Manitou Football Has Real Grit
September 4, 2014
This past Friday, August 29, the Manitou Mustangs played a game against Faith Christian and, while it was a loss, we put up quite the fight and only lost by 3 points. Both teams threw numerous interceptions, although that may have been due to it being the first game of the season, in addition to Manitou having a new coach, Coach Gutowski. Tight End Danny McGee said in an interview, “I really like the new coach. He’s a really enthusiastic guy and he knows the game really well.” Hopefully, he’ll lead the team to a great season and even possibly take us to state this year. “We trained hard this summer and strived,” said Running Back Malachi Peterson. McGee also thinks that the team is really strong this year, despite the outcome of Friday’s game. He said, “If you would’ve changed a few little things that happened within the game, the outcome would’ve been completely different.” McGee said that there needed to be less penalties and mental errors, but, in his opinion, no huge mistakes were made on the part of the Mustangs. The team is always working hard to improve themselves as a whole and according to Peterson, they practice every day after school for two hours and also on Saturdays. Obviously, they are working as hard as they can to bring about a great season to Manitou this year.
