Manitou Girls Volleyball goes to State

The Manitou Girls Volleyball team kicked back the week before the state tournament as Manitou students participated in an impromptu spirit week by dressing up every day. The team chose the themes for each day and advertised them over Facebook and morning announcements. Manitou students supported the team by wearing tie-dye on Monday, Nike clothing on Tuesday, sports jerseys on Wednesday, pink on Thursday, and Friday they chose green and gold. This pumped up and supported the team for their excursion to the competition from Friday, November 7 to Saturday, November 8.

Although Manitou didn’t make it to the State game like they had hoped, they held a great record until then.

Friday night they faced Bayfield High School and won three out of four sets. The first set was a win of 25-16, but the second was a loss of 22-25. This is when they immediately stepped up their game and won their last two sets with scores of 25-14 and 25-21.

The next morning the girls woke up with determination, but it only got them so far.

Back at the Denver Coliseum, the volleyball team dominated all three sets against Pagosa Springs with 25-19, 25-6 and 25-13. They went with high hopes into the next game.

The determination that the girls held was shown in the first set against Valley High School where they won 25-22. Sadly, they lost the last three sets with scores of 13-25, 16-25, and 18-25.
