Dear Editor,
At Manitou we are able to have amazing connections and support from our teachers due to the small class sizes that make a better high school experience, and this should never change.
One of the best parts of Manitou is the close connections a student is able to make with their teachers and admin. At many other schools and likely in college, you will have few classes where you’re able to have a personal connection with your teacher and where they truly understand what they can do to help you. These connections not only help them help you but can also create a safer feeling space for students to learn where they don’t have to be worried about being judged by a large class as they also grow to know their entire class. Another great aspect of knowing your teacher is their ability to help you advance in life no matter what path you take.
On top of the connections you can make, the ability to give specific academic assistance is also an amazing quality. These small class sizes allow for teachers to have time to help a student in need or with a question. Many teachers are constantly available for you to see them for help and are willing to give time in order for you to better understand a topic, and they often are willing too with anyone who comes to them. Anytime I don’t understand something in math, I know I can go to Mr. Talbott for help, and him not being swarmed by hundreds of students allows this to be a possibility.
With shrinking staff sizes, I hope this is able to stay the reality of Manitou because it is one of the key features that helps make our school what it is.
Sincerely,
Weston
