“Caddo Lake” is a newly released movie that can be found on Max that was directed by Celine Held and Logan George. It follows the story of a young girl who goes missing followed by her family’s mission to find and save her. I would say that the main themes or genres of this movie are mystery and thriller, which I really like. I thought this movie was very interesting, intriguing and overall very good. It had a lot of plot twists that kept me wanting to watch more, but it was also somewhat confusing.

The movie starts with the introduction of characters and the relationships they have with each other. The movie follows two different characters or stories. A man named Paris’s story is being followed as he tries to solve why his mother died. Meanwhile the story of Ellie is shown as she searches for her missing sister Anna. Ellie is very close with her sister, Anna, but has a difficult relationship with her mom and stepdad. She often sleeps at a friend’s house for this reason. But one night when Ellie gets in an argument with her mom she leaves the house in a hurry. Her sister Anna wanted to go with her and eventually left on her own to follow Ellie. But, Anna never returned. The next morning when Ellie found out that Anna was missing, she went home to help look for her sister. But after she docked her boat, the boat went missing as well. She eventually left on her own to find her sister. When she would get to a specific shallow part of the lake and walk on the land, her ears would stop working correctly. But when she got past that part of land, it would stop. Eventually she realized that she was time traveling, and when she would find her sister, she was just finding her from the past when she wasn’t missing yet. Meanwhile, a man named Paris works in the lake. And when he was walking in the shallow area he also experienced the same thing where his ears stopped working. Similar to Ellie, he would start experiencing seizures when this happened as well. He time travels as well. As the movie continues, the characters continue to to travel through time revealing shocking connections between all the characters. In the end, Anna was never necessarily found and brought back home, but the truth of what happened is revealed.

I think that the storyline and plot events in this movie are very good and impressive.

The movie is already initially interesting because of the mystery of where Anna is, but it gets even more interesting when the audience is hit with the shocking information about time travel and the relationship between characters that is not expected. Therefore, this is a great way to keep the audience on their toes and wondering what is about to happen. The movie did not end with Anna being brought back home, which for some people might be disappointing, but it instead provided closure by explaining why she disappeared and where she is. I really like this movie’s story. It was not all what I had expected but it was really interesting. The events that happen in this movie can be comparable to the movie “Totally Killer”, because they both are about situations where characters travel through time in order to save someone. These movies aren’t identical by any means, but the characters both inevitably use time travel (whether they tried to or not) while trying to save someone.

I think the music in this movie was used very wisely. I wouldn’t say that music is used very extensively at all. Throughout the movie, the background music seemed to be quiet instrumental music and music similar to a ringing or frequency. And because of how quietly the music was being played, I feel that the music blended perfectly and seamlessly into the scene so that it is barely noticeable. The only times where I was especially aware of the music was when some sort of plot event was happening. This is because the music was similar but higher pitched and a little bit louder. The most accurate way I could describe the music throughout the movie is that it was dark and mysterious sounding. I feel like this suited the tone and themes of the movie very well, which is good because music can highly impact how the audience is experiencing the events happening in the movie.

As for the acting in this movie, I thought the actors did a great job. The movie stars Dylan O’Brien and Eliza Scanlen. Eliza Scanlen plays the character Ellie, who is a very serious character that cares for Anna a lot yet has a complex relationship with the rest of her family. I think she does a great job in her role as Ellie, because she was able to illustrate complex emotions and strength perfectly. Meanwhile Dylan O’Brien plays Paris, a character who is also very serious, curious,  and driven. He does a great job at presenting a character who is very serious and curious. The main themes of the movie are very serious, and all of the actors do an amazing job at utilizing those themes and tones within their acting.

Overall, I think this movie is very interesting, shocking and captivating. It tells a story that is unique to anything I have ever seen before, and I would recommend it to anyone who likes mystery genres and dark, sad, and serious movies. It was a good movie and I would watch it again. Overall, I rate this movie a 8.5/10.
