Living far away from a school is a struggle, but some students, even though they live closer to another school, still come to Manitou Springs High school to get an education here.
One of the struggles of going to Manitou Springs is getting to the school in general. “ Now that I have my license it is not as hard as it was,” Kyle Blasi said. “But I remember definitely like freshman and sophomore year, like my mom would have complained a lot about bringing back up, back and forth for baseball games or soccer games or whatever.”
Some of the struggles of living far away from a school is having to time things so you could get to school or events on time. “It’s a 40 minute round trip to get to my house and to Manitou if we want to go and do anything,” Blasi (11) said. “There’s not much point for me going home for an hour and then just coming right back. So I usually just stick around after school for whatever.”
Getting to after school activities comes with a struggle because it leaves less time to get home and get the required items. “ Yeah, I’m not too bad because, I mean, it’s the same drive to school. It’s like a 20 minute drive,” Cameron Schwartz (11) said. “But it depends on the event.”
Living far away could have some upsides to it because it opens up new ways for students to be more responsible. “It teaches me responsibility, because no, I cannot forget anything,” Blasi (11) said. ” I’ve never had to get anything from my house, luckily, which is good.”
Even though some students live far away they go to this school for many different reasons. “I go to Manitou, because I’ve already been going here since sixth grade, and figured, why not like the people here and the teachers are pretty great,” Dominic McCullough (12) said.
Even though some students live far away from Manitou they still come out of their way to come and get an education at MSHS. “But I definitely prefer to live in the town of Manitou, because if you live in Manitou, you go to the Manitou Springs High School, versus like Colorado Springs, where you have like 20 different high schools that service the whole area,” Blasi (11) said.”So it just depends on the region of Colorado Springs you live in. So that’s why I think that makes Manitou special.”
Some students go to Manitou because of the variety of the school and how special it is to them. “I go to Manitou because my mom works in the school district, and I just like the people here, and I like the school, and the whole small environment, and not going to a big school,” Schwartz (11) said. “ I’ve been here since I was little, so I don’t really have anything to compare it to, but I just, I definitely like where it’s located as well, has a very good view, and it’s just overall, a really good school.”
