“Oh.”
It was just a normal day. Evan Waldo had made it to school early, which was quite the privilege compared to his usual time. He walked through the quiet, tranquil hallways to pass time. Each of the hallways had a few classrooms that hadn’t even had open doors yet. If it were any quieter, it’d have almost been uncomfortable. His shoes made a unique squeaking sound on the floor, which he enjoyed listening to. After a couple minutes, he decided it was best to head to class just a few minutes early.
Evan had Mr. Slama’s Environmental Science class for his first block. It was dark in there, from what it looked like from down the hallway, but he didn’t think to question it. He shuffled in, expecting the classroom to be almost full, but was surprised to find quite the opposite. The classroom was completely empty, even lacking a teacher. He sat down at his assigned seat and waited.
RIIIIIIIINNNNNGGGGGG!!! That was the bell. Class had officially started and no one was in sight. So he waited longer, hopeful that he wouldn’t be the only one. And longer. And longer. . . Before finally, a teacher walked in. Her name was Ms. Tintle. Evan was happy to see her and smiled.
“I guess it’s just you and me today,” he chuckled, folding his hands.
Ms. Tintle stared for a minute, giving him a very concerned look. “Evan, today is a B Day. This is my planning period.”
The realization flooded over him; Evan knew she was right. “Oh.”
