Dear Editor:
Manitou Springs High School should add more clubs to benefit students for future career paths. Clubs can benefit students’ transcripts and help with the application process for colleges. Clubs allow students to learn more about themselves and learn the ability to commit. Students that are involved in clubs and school are less likely to drop out of school and fail.
Manitou has clubs like FCA and Key Club but lacks a lot of clubs that other schools have such as FFA, Deca, and Model UN which could help students decide on future career paths and expand their real-world knowledge. Students are more likely to join clubs if they have an interest in the activity. Allowing students to have more opportunities could benefit the school and community.
These clubs could allow the student body to be more involved with the school. Clubs like these can benefit students who don’t participate in sport activities. Clubs allow students to learn the value of teamwork, sense of culture, and community. Students who feel more involved with school are more likely to increase their attachment to the school. These positive attributes overall build a better atmosphere in the school.
Although our study body is smaller than surrounding schools, allowing more opportunities for students to join clubs may get more people to come to manitou or even have our students stay at our district since many leave due to more opportunities at surrounding schools.
Adding more clubs to Manitou Springs High School allows students to strive for excellence in and out of the classroom. This allows students to be more involved with the sense of community Manitou has. Manitou should consider the idea of adding more clubs to benefit the students and community.
Sincerely, Madison Anderson
