MSSD14 celebrated homecoming between Sept. 23 to Sept. 28 with student activities, games, and the homecoming dance. Manitou Springs has longstanding homecoming traditions and new ones as well.

MaKenzi VerVaecke, Editor-in-Chief
MaKenzi VerVaecke is currently a senior at Manitou Springs High School. She helps to manage football in the fall. In her free time, she enjoys cooking and watching TV shows. One of VerVaecke’s favorite things is to go to MSHS games, specifically basketball and volleyball. However, she dislikes white chocolate and blue cheese. VerVaecke is excited to continue growing her journalistic career as Editor-In-Chief this year.
Halli Leonhardt, Managing Editor
Halli Leonhardt is a senior at Manitou Springs High School. She loves learning new things and being open to new opportunities. Her favorite hobby is photography, and she is excited for all of the great things that this year will bring. Leonhardt’s quote for the year is “Who’s gonna carry the boats?” She is looking forward to serving as Managing Editor this year
Cordelia Portman, Copy Editor
Cordelia Portman is currently a junior at MSHS. This is her third year on the Prospector staff. She has three cats and loves to meet new animals. She enjoys working, playing instruments, spending money, decorating and going to football games. Portman dislikes people who don't use their blinker, airports and wasps. She is excited to be the copy editor this year for the staff.
Kaleb Cervantes, Multimedia Editor
Kaleb Cervantes is a junior at Manitou Springs High School. In his free time Cervantes enjoys playing instruments like the drums and the guitar. He also loves photography and art. He is eager to graduate and go pursue journalism in college, using this year as a stepping stone towards that career path. Cervantes dislikes mushrooms with a passion. Cervantes is excited to continue to gain experience in journalism as an editor this year.
Krissy Stout, Social Media Editor
Krissy Stout is currently a junior at Manitou Springs High School. Stout has two dogs, Ellie and Buddie. Stout also has two fish named Delia and Willow. She enjoys playing cards with her grandma, shopping with friends, working and Saturday mornings. She works at a tourist shop, mainly making coffee. She dislikes messy backpacks and being bored. She’s excited to bring a fresh perspective by writing for The Prospector this year.
Jarrin Hall, Senior Reporter
Jarrin Hall is currently a senior at Manitou Springs High School. He plays football in the fall and basketball in the winter. In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, going hunting and fishing. One of Hall’s favorite things is lifting weights to improve in sports. He dislikes soup and baseball. Hall is excited to begin his journalistic career this year and write sports stories.
Madison Sharon, Junior Reporter
Madison Sharon is currently a senior at Manitou Springs High School. She is an artist and participates in multiple art classes, as well as girls golf in the spring. She has three dogs that she loves very much. Their names are Eli, Ryder and Skai. She has a growing collection of Funko Pops. She loves movies and TV shows like Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes. This year, she is excited to learn more about journalism.
Maddie Fonkert, Junior Reporter
Maddie Fonkert is currently a junior at Manitou Springs High School. Fonkert likes to read and lift weights in her free time, but she also loves to hike on weekends when she isn’t working. She dislikes olives and is terrified of spiders. She is excited to build her writing skills in journalism.
Marisa Fonkert, Junior Reporter
Marisa Fonkert is currently a junior at Manitou Springs High School. In her free time, she enjoys running, going to the gym and spending time with family and friends. Some of Fonkert’s favorite things to do are outdoor activities, such as skiing, paddle boarding and camping. However, she dislikes blue cheese and jalapenos. Fonkert is excited to grow and learn in journalism this year.
Enzo Mendoza, Junior Reporter
Enzo Mendoza is a sophomore at Manitou Springs High School. He plays basketball and hopes to play for the MSHS basketball team in the 2024-2025 season. During his free time, he likes to play video games, cook, create art, watch anime, read and edit videos. One of Mendoza’s favorite activities is hanging out with family and friends. However, he dislikes melted chocolate and sitting around doing nothing. Mendoza is excited to be a part of the Prospector staff and hopes to learn more about journalism.
