Manitou Football Victorious in Tight Game Against Salida

On Friday, October 14, Manitou fans gathered at MSHS’ home field, eager to see whether the Mustangs would be able to pull off a win one week after their winning record had been lost in a 40-to-nothing blowout against La Junta. Their opponent was Salida, who came into the game with a  2-4 record overall.

Within the first ten minutes, Manitou’s first touchdown was run in by Davyn Adamscheck (12), the second being scored by Jake Haas (10) with 5 minutes left in the first quarter. At the beginning of the second quarter, the Spartans were leading Manitou by seven points, until a touchdown was scored by Uriah Waters with 6:28 left in the first half.

Halfway through the third quarter, the game was tied up at 27-27, until a touchdown was scored by Salida with 4:47 left in the quarter, making the score 34-27, Spartans. This score remained the same until Uriah Waters (12) ran the ball in once more at the end of the fourth quarter, bringing Salida’s lead down to a mere one point margin. Proceeding this touchdown, a two point conversion was caught by Jayden Omi (10), making the final score 35-34, Mustangs.

As the clock ran out, fans and players joined together in singing Manitou’s fight song, celebrating a win before next week’s game against the Florence Huskies, who have an overall record of 4-3, which will take place on October 21 in Florence.
