The Manitou Springs girls basketball team continued their successful season Tuesday night with a 38-35 win over Ellicott in the first round of districts.
The lady Mustangs, who finished first in the Tri-Peaks league with an overall 12-7 record in the regular season, used a strong second half to inch past the Thunderhawks.
Head coach Dan Gieck said, “We knew that we could win and we could not accept losing.”
Manitou struggled to score in the first half which led to a 3 point deficit heading into halftime.
However, the Mustangs flipped the script in the second half scoring 22 points with 18 of those coming in the third quarter.
The leading scorers for the game included Meghan McGee with 14 and Ali Thompson with 11.
The Mustangs will now prepare for Trinidad in the district semifinals.
Coach Gieck said that the key to winning against Trinidad is, “…Being an individual threat and being able to score against man to man defense.”
That game will be at Pueblo Central Friday night at 7:00.
