The Manitou Springs boys basketball team defeated league opponent Florence on Tuesday night by a score of 79-36.
The Mustangs started the game off hot and never looked back, shooting a combined 50% from the field.
“We got some easy baskets which opened up the floor and led to a good shooting night,” Coach Ken Vecchio said.
Chase Megyeri, who finished with 14 points, started the Mustangs good shooting night with a couple of deep three’s in the first quarter.
The rest of the team then filled in and built a comfortable 25 point lead heading into halftime.
Manitou continued their intense style of play after halftime which led to a 27 point outburst in the third quarter alone.
The rest of the game then cruised by with Manitou winning by 43 points.
Chad Sienknecht, who finished with 11 points, said, “We really shot lights out, especially in the third quarter, and that helped us pull away from them.”
The other scoring leaders included Glenn Shoptaugh with 13, Mick Prather with 10 and KC Quarry with 9.
Manitou’s next game is against Fountain Valley on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
