The Manitou Springs swim team defeated Fountain Valley for the first time in ten years.
The December 8 meet resulted in a 102-84 victory for the Mustangs, with strong performances once again by freshmen Veronica Morin and Sam White and captains Kailah Buchanan and Hannah Linhart.
Junior Maddie Conarro, the only diver from Manitou this year, dove at the meet and finished third.
“Although it was the first meet, I still feel like I could have done better,” said Conarro. “I only missed second place by a tenth of a point, so I’m just going to keep working harder for my teammates and coaches.”
Morin broke the 100 backstroke school record, and White nearly qualified for State in the 100 breaststroke and the 500 freestyle.
Linhart, Morin, White and Kelsey Seibel all qualified for State in the 400 freestyle relay.
This puts the tally up to about half the team who have qualified for State already.
When asked about beating Fountain Valley for the first time in a decade, Linhart said, “I feel really good about it. It was a really good meet.”
