Cheerleading Excels at State Competition

On December 5th, the MSHS Cheerleading Team showcased their upcoming state routine in the high school gym. This was for the parents, friends and students who couldn’t make it up to the 2018 State Spirit Championship at the Denver Coliseum. This showcase was also to display all of the hard work the cheerleaders have put in throughout the season. The girls performed their whole routine as their parents and friends cheered them on.
This prepared them— in all aspects—for their state competition. The competition was displayed on the tv in the Commons and many students were permitted to leave class to cheer the team on. The competition started on that Friday, and finals took place on Saturday. Sadly, the MSHS cheerleading team did not make it to finals. They were 3.6 points away from finals with zero deductions. The team ended up placing 6th out of 18 teams in their section, which included 5A schools.
Atraya Christiansen (11), one of the cheerleading team captains for this season, said, “We all worked extremely hard and had a great time during the entire season.”  The MSHS Cheerleading team’s goal for next year is “to have more complicated stunts that will get us into finals in state and potentially win. I believe we will accomplish this if we just commit ourselves more and really push to be the best we can.” With hope, the team will continue their success and potentially win the State Spirit Championship next year.
