Symphonic and Jazz Bands put on Fall Concert

Ashley Rodriguez, Senior Reporter

The Manitou Springs High School band had their first concert of the year on Thursday, October 15. The band has been working hard for this concert since the beginning of the year, but they had to stop rehearsing it at times in order to be able to practice the school song for the Homecoming Parade.

This year’s band consists of approximately 52 members, which is slightly less than last year’s group.

This is Terry Leve’s second year of directing, and he is pushing the band to give its best. Leve also teaches both Jazz and Symphonic bands.

The songs for the evening of Thursday night’s show were as follows:

The Jazz band preformed:
Little Brown Jug……. arr, art Dedrick
Perdido……..H.J. Lengsfelder, Arr. Don Nelson
Send in the Clowns…..Stephen Sondheim, Arr. Dave Barduhm

The symphonic band preformed:
Dreams and fancies………Timothy Broege
Mvmt. 1: First Dream
Mvmt. 2: First Fancy
Mvmt. 3: Second Dream
Mvmt. 4: Second Fancy

The band played the school song in Manitou’s Homecoming Parade, and they also play at home football games. They are practicing the school song so much that trombone player Carina Villarreal (11) is constantly humming the song in class.

The band does not know when the next concert will be, but there is usually a fall, winter and spring concert.
