Wrestlers Crush Woodland Park

Calvin Kuhlman, Reporter

The night of Wednesday, February 4, Manitou wrestlers took on the Woodland Park Panthers. Thanks to an entire week of advertising and hype with the help of student council, including a promise of free hot dogs and raffle prizes, there was major turn out from the student body. The wrestlers’ last home match was full of touching senior moments and plenty of hardcore wrestling. The match was hard-fought and won by the Mustangs with a score of 42 to 28.

I think it’s one of the closest teams I have been on in wrestling and any other athletic team.

— Noah Sobeck

While everyone fought their hardest and left it all on the mat, Julian Sanchez (10), Noah Sobeck (9), Billy Ryan (12), and Jacob Rider (11) all emerged victorious over their opponents.

Like most Manitou teams, they are an extremely close-knit group, “Almost too close,” according to junior Gabe Draxton. Freshman Noah Sobeck says, “I think it’s one of the closest teams I have been on in wrestling and any other athletic team.”

The wrestlers each gave it their all and in the end our Manitou Springs wrestlers crushed the opposition with overwhelming force. The turn-out was much appreciated by many people as well, none more than Ms.Wendy. An amazing event with an amazing outcome.

The wrestlers are now looking forward to regionals the weekend state the following week.
